There’s something very special about the Kalashnikov, maybe it’s the simple yet menacing design, or perhaps it’s the elegant swirls of the beautifully laminated wood, that is as nice to touch as it is to look at. It could just be that it is the most popular firearm to have ever been manufactured and is so iconic and identifiable, that it has become a must have for any self respecting airsofter who wants something a bit different to the AR platform. Only the very best airsoft replica guns capture the imagination, not just in terms of looks but also in the way it functions and feels. The GKM from G&G ticks all of those boxes and then some! The first thing to notice is the sheer size of the gun. It’s long and heavy, but not unwieldy or uncomfortable. The metal parts are reassuringly solid having been manufactured from steel, Aluminum and zinc. The real wood stock and hand guard are amongst the nicest we have seen. It’s a fantastic deep finish that gives the rifle such a distinctive aura. The Kalashnikov comes with a ‘humped’ hi-cap magazine in black, but there are also olive and the classic bakelite brown available. This humped design is unique to G&G’s GK range so when buying extras make sure you get the right type. There is a ridge on the receiver to attach a scope mount if you want to use optics, which is always good. The hop unit is accessed in the normal manner, by pulling back the charging handle, so fine adjustment can be made quickly and easily. The selector switch is also the traditional vertical style with safe, auto and semi. Sling points are mounted near the rear of the stock and next to the front hand guard. While these features sound very standard, the battery compartment is far from it. The 11.1v LiPo it runs on, is integrated into the beautiful wooden lower handguard. For a quick change all that is required is to press a button in, slide up the retaining part and the handguard housing the battery will slide straight out. Airsoft guns virtually never come with batteries... this one comes with two. That’s right it is supplied with two battery handguards... AND a LiPo charger! Shooting this beast is great fun. The imitation blowback gives off a very satisfying metallic clank. The rate of fire with the supplied handguard is prodigious, but if you like to show a little restraint, the trigger response on single shot is responsive and crisp. The range is as you would expect from a GT advanced model, far reaching and accurate. So if you want something a little different with outstanding quality, but contains all of the necessary components to get you going without further purchase, look no further.
